After a 10 year stint as Executive Director of Design and Merchandising for Chris Stone Textiles, a major US home textiles company based in Los Angeles, and after 15 years in the fashion industry as a textiles and knit designer, Andrea Bernstein founded Millworks in 2008.
In 2010 after doing several licensed collections at various retailers, Bernstein decided to paint her own designs. Using broad thick brushstrokes with a paintbrush soaked with thick acrylic color, she sat in her own yard near Beverly Hills, California and marveled at the amazing beauty of flowers, plants and natural textures around her. Over time, Bernstein created a large body of paintings which are the basis of the Millworks textiles collection. Brushstrokes became screen prints. |
Color, saturated rich and bright filled the screens in the print plant, and the
workers surrounded the screen table to see this unusual art come to life. All the designs colorized into a palette of brights mixed with deep chocolate. The vibrancy of the designs depicts the beauty of nature in California. In November 2011, the Millworks bedding collection and two colorful shops were launched exclusively for cutting edge furniture store H.D. Buttercup in the Los Angeles and San Francisco stores. Millworks operates from a large bright loft in the downtown Historic Arts District of Los Angeles. All Millworks prints are hand screened and the products are all made locally in Southern California. |
We are thrilled to be launching Bedding and Bath products with Baltic Linens at September Home textile Market. We will soon be announcing new partners in gift, stationery and tabletop.
